Mark Levinstein

Mark Levinstein is a partner with the law firm of Williams & Connolly LLP in Washington, D.C. He received his B.A. with honors in economics from the University of Virginia (1979) and his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School (1982). After graduation he spent one year serving as a law clerk to Judge W. Arthur Garrity Jr. in the United States District Court for Massachusetts, and then went to Williams & Connolly, where he has worked since 1983.

Levinstein is a trial lawyer whose practice over the past 32 years has involved a very broad array of legal subject matter, with a primary focus on antitrust law, business litigation, and sports law. With respect to sports-related legal issues, he has represented sports teams, owners, leagues, players associations, college and professional coaches, front office personnel, scouts, agents, national governing bodies and other Olympic organizations, universities, agents, management companies, event producers, owners of sports facilities, new media and Internet businesses, sponsors, licensees, and professional, amateur, collegiate and Olympic athletes. The sports-related matters have involved litigation, arbitration, negotiation, mediation, counseling, business planning, strategy and representing clients in crisis situations.

Over the past 30 years, Levinstein has also served as an adjunct professor of law, teaching antitrust, advanced antitrust, and sports law, at Georgetown University Law Center, George Washington University Law School, and Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law. He is a co-author of one of the leading sports law casebooks. He also serves as the chair of the Board of Athletes for Hope, a public charity.
