Tara K. McGrath

Tara K. McGrath works for the U.S. Department of Justice, DOJ, as an assistant United States attorney in the criminal division of the southern district of California, San Diego. She has been with the U.S. Attorney's Office since 2008 and has held supervisory positions as a deputy chief, principal deputy chief and trial team leader. 

McGrath has also served in the DOJ's Office of Enforcement Operations as a detail attorney in the Electronic Surveillance Unit in Washington, D.C.

Prior to joining the DOJ, McGrath was on active duty in the United States Marine Corps and served at bases in Virginia, South Carolina and Japan.  While in the Marine Corps, she was a defense counsel, deputy staff judge advocate and a legal assistance officer. 

McGrath has also worked in the U.S. Department of Treasury and with the District Attorney's Office in Cambridge, Massachusetts. 

McGrath has been an active conservationist for many years, is a Rotarian and has held positions in support of Charlottesville City Schools.  She teaches Federal Criminal Pre-Trial and Trial Practice at the University of Virginia School of Law.
