Virginia B. Theisen

Ginny Theisen teaches Appellate Practice at the Law School.

Theisen currently serves as a senior assistant attorney general and unit leader in the Criminal Appeals Section of the Virginia Attorney General’s Office, where she handles criminal appeals in state courts and habeas corpus cases in state and federal courts.  She also reviews direct appeal briefs and habeas pleadings for attorneys in her unit. 

Theisen is a 1981 graduate of the College of William & Mary, and received her law degree from the college’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1984. She has worked as a trial prosecutor in Roanoke, Virginia; a staff attorney in the Court of Appeals of Virginia and has served in the Virginia Attorney General’s Office for 25 years. She is the attorney general’s representative on the Virginia Model Jury Instruction Committee and is a frequent lecturer at federal habeas corpus seminars sponsored by the National Association of Attorneys General.
