Why Does the Law School Need My Support?

Private donations support student organizations and journals, financial aid, the library, the faculty, clinics and special programs, lectures and symposia, public service fellowships, the public service loan assistance program, and more. The Law School Foundation continues to raise vital scholarship funds to offset rising tuition. 

Annual Giving: Every Dollar Counts

Every gift to the Law School Foundation counts in the annual giving campaign, which spans July 1-June 30.

Under a financial self-sufficiency agreement with the University, the Law School retains 90 percent of the tuition dollars generated by law students. Ten percent is remitted to the University for overhead. Additionally, we reimburse the University for specific expenses incurred. This allows the Law School to chart its course and obtain freedom from the uncertainty of the government budgeting process. It also means private support is more important than ever.

Reunion Giving: What Counts as a Reunion Gift?

All gifts and pledges received from members of reunion classes in a fiscal year count toward the “class gift” total and may include:

  • gifts made in support of specific endowments or projects
  • unrestricted monies
  • planned gifts, such as charitable remainder trusts, pooled income funds or charitable gift annuities.

Gifts may be designated for a specific purpose or left unrestricted for the unmet needs of the Law School.

Some reunion classes set specific goals and/or specific purposes. Information about your class's goal is available on your reunion class home page, linked from the Reunions home page.
