Tornado Preparedness Day

March 17, 2008

The University of Virginia will exercise a brief tornado drill March 18, 2008 at 9:45 a.m. that includes a test of the UVaAlerts text messaging system.

In an event of an actual tornado, everyone in the building should head to the lowest floor possible and to interior space away from windows. In Slaughter Hall that would mean the student organization office area, Courts & Commerce bookstore, and the copy center on the first floor. In Withers-Brown, the safest areas would be first-floor interior classrooms, especially WB126, WB128, WB152, and WB154.
