Course Description

This directed study is one part of a two-part full-time Washington, DC externship combining academic study and work experience under the supervision of a faculty member and an educational, charitable, governmental or nonprofit host organization.  The class covers government lawyering, and involves readings each week on various topics (such as ethics, the role of the prosecutor, congressional lawyers, politics and government counseling, professionalism).  About half the classes are given by guest lecturers, who are prominent government lawyers.  Requirements for the class include mandatory attendance at all sessions; submission of weekly timesheets detailing work at the externship; and active class participation.
