Advanced Civil Procedure
This course is designed to review in more depth some of the topics that you studied in first-year Civil Procedure and to cover additional procedures for which there is typically insufficient time in the first-year course. These include coordinating related litigation, motions practice, complex joinder, provisional remedies, judicial case management, voluntary and involuntary dismissals, jury and bench trials, judgments, post-trial relief, and appeals. By the end of the course you should feel well–versed in the terminology and concepts of Civil Procedure, be able to analyze Civil Procedure problems with some sophistication, and be able to research procedural questions as part of a litigation practice.
Flex exam at end of semester.
*Yes means professor requires everyone in the course to submit a substantial research paper (which is the requirement standard in Academic Policies), so no paperwork required to be submitted to SRO. No means student must timely submit paperwork to SRO if intending to use a paper in this course to satisfy the Writing Requirement.
**Yes indicates course credits count towards UVA Law’s Prof. Skills graduation requirement, not necessarily a skills requirements for any particular state bar.
