French Public and Private Law (SC)
This short course will study the following topics:
1- Is French Law still French made law?
•The various sources of French Law (expansion and diversification): French Civil Code, International and European sources, increasing significance of case law and the impact of the European Convention of Human Rights, Constitutional issues.
2- Towards a Supreme Court? Is Law a business?
•Jurisdictions and procedural issues- Legal professions- Lawyers and Notaries
3- Why France wants to be at the cutting edge? •Moderns trends in Family law: same sex marriage, spouse, International estate Planning for foreigners: good news. Why a new Contract Law?
A take home examination in a sealed envelope will be available for pick-up in SRO at the beginning of the Spring semester. Students will be on their honor to draft their answers during the stated time upon opening the envelope, and to upload their answer document to EXPO within 10 minutes thereafter. The deadline to upload an answer document to EXPO is 4:30 pm (EST) two weeks after the start of the Spring semester (February 6, 2017).
*Yes means professor requires everyone in the course to submit a substantial research paper (which is the requirement standard in Academic Policies), so no paperwork required to be submitted to SRO. No means student must timely submit paperwork to SRO if intending to use a paper in this course to satisfy the Writing Requirement.
