Course Description

Federal law closely regulates employer-provided retirement, health, and welfare benefits. In this course, we will examine key federal statutes for this important and dynamic area of the law, including the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), the Affordable Care Act of 2010, and the Internal Revenue Code. Particular attention will be devoted to tax-qualified retirement plans (such as 401(k) plans), non-qualified retirement plans for corporate executives, and health insurance. No background knowledge of federal tax, pension, or health-care law is required.
