Course Description

This course is an introduction to cyberspace operations (CO) and the evolving legal and policy issues raised by such operations. Topics to be addressed will include: cyber strategy; legal issues involved in offensive and defensive cyberspace operations; CO as a use of force under international law; and, application of the law of armed conflict (LOAC) to CO. The course will begin with an introduction to the technology behind cyber operations and an overview of the evolution of cyber threats and capabilities.

Course Notes: Student grades will be based on a short (no more than 5 pages) response memo and class participation. This course meets at the JAG School during their 3rd Quarter, January 7th - March 8th, 2019. ATTENDANCE: Enrolled students who do not attend the first class session will be processed in accordance with the Academic Policies. Students seeking to enroll in this course must complete and timely submit a request form to the Student Records Office. The instructors for this course are CAPT Huntley and Maj Smith.
