Course Description

This course introduces the institutions and rules governing international trade and investment. Policy perspectives are taken from international economic theory and theories of international relations. The focus is the World Trade Organization, the North American Free Trade Agreement as perpetuated by the US Mexico Canada Agreement; and other treaties and international legal regimes that provide international arbitration of disputes between foreign investors and host states. The course also considers the impact of trade and investment policy on the environment, labor, competition policy, and cultural identity as well as trade conflicts between the United States and other countries.
