Seminar in Ethical Values (YR)

Section 4ZO, Fall 20

Schedule Information

Enrollment: 6/6
Credits: 0

Course Description

Seminars in Ethical Values are designed to enhance students' understanding of ethical issues and address the broader ethical and moral responsibilities of the lawyer as citizen and leader. The seminars are graded on a pass/fail basis; students earn one credit in the spring semester upon successful completion of the seminar. This section of the Seminar is interprofessional, co-taught by a neurologist and a law professor, both UVA faculty members, and combines law students and fourth-year medical students. The seminar encourages students to recognize ethical conflicts that arise in professional and public life and to engage in critical reflection about their ethical responsibilities through discussion of literature and film. We will read 4 books, which will include fiction and nonfiction and one graphic work. We will also watch one film. Discussion will include consideration of medical and legal ethics within the greater context of general ethical values.
