Course Description

This Seminar in Ethical Values examines the lives and contributions of the female justices of the United States Supreme Court. We will analyze the ethical values, characteristics and experiences that have shaped them and how these things have helped them to contribute to justice and equality for all. We also will compare and contrast the experiences and contributions of these justices. Each student will co-collaborate one or two sessions with Professor Robinson. We will decide on the dates for our meetings based on student and faculty availability. Professor Robinson looks forward to exploring these fascinating women with seminar participants. Our tentative assignments are: Class 1: Documentary: RBG; Class 2: First: Sandra Day O’Connor by Evan Thomas; Class 3: Elena Kagan; Class 4: My Beloved Country by Justice Sonia Sotomayor; Class 5: Amy Coney Barrett ; Class 6: Ketanji Brown Jackson and Civil Rights Queen: Constance Baker Motley and the Struggle for Equality by Tomiko Brown Nagin

Course Notes: The exact schedule of class meetings will be announced by Prof. Robinson before the close of the Add/Drop period (Sept. 5th). Students in this year-long course earn 1 credit at the conclusion of the spring term (graded on a Satisfactory (S) / Unsatisfactory (U) basis).
