Seminar in Ethical Values (YR)

Information Introduction

Schedule Information

Enrollment: 6/6
Credits: 0

Course Description

This year-long seminar enrolling both law and medical students explores the challenges of first-person narrative and, by extension, the place and ethics of personal storytelling in professional practice. Lawyers and doctors receive and respond to stories from persons in crisis, as when injury or illness disrupts a life. Who are our patients and clients, and how do we know them? And what about the lawyer’s or doctor’s own story? We will consider multiple subjective perspectives, narrative voices and their reliability/unreliability, and the moral responsibilities of tellers and listeners, with readings from Sophocles, Virginia Woolf, and others.
