Criminal Justice and Mental Illness
From police shootings to competency hearings to the death penalty, issues of mental health surface widely in some of the most controversial parts of our system of criminal justice. This year's Virginia Journal of Criminal Law Symposium will analyze how well equipped we are in dealing with mental illness as it surfaces in defendants and members of the community. Experts in will discuss the ways in which Virginia is on the forefront when it comes to these issues, as well as ideas for reform and further improvement.
