David G. Leitch ’85 retired from Bank of America as vice chair in 2022 and previously served as global general counsel, responsible for overseeing the bank's legal functions around the world. He also served as general counsel and group vice president of Ford Motor Co. from 2005-2015.

Leitch spent several years in government service in a range of roles. He served as deputy counsel to President George W. Bush, chief counsel for the Federal Aviation Administration, and deputy assistant attorney general in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel. In private practice, Leitch was a partner in the appellate litigation group at Hogan & Hartson (now Hogan Lovells) in Washington, D.C.

After graduating first in his class from the University of Virginia School of Law, Leitch was a law clerk to Circuit Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III '72 of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and then to former Chief Justice of the United States William H. Rehnquist.

Leitch is a member of the American Law Institute and was recognized as a “Legend in the Law” by the Burton Foundation in 2017.
