Matthew X. Etchemendy

Matthew X. Etchemendy is a senior associate at Vinson & Elkins in Washington D.C. A member of the firm’s appellate practice group, his main areas of practice include administrative law, constitutional law and environmental law.
Before joining the firm, Etchemendy clerked for Chief Judge Merrick B. Garland of the United State Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and for Justice Anthony M. Kennedy of the Supreme Court of the United States. He holds a doctorate in philosophy from Stanford University, and served as the Law & Philosophy Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School for 2016-2017. His academic research interests include American legal realism, analytic jurisprudence and metaethics.
