Student library advisory committees (or boards or councils) are groups of students that meet to discuss library spaces and services. The functions and responsibilities of these groups vary according to the institutions they serve. When I was in graduate school, I served on the Student Library Advisory Board and we recognized the excellent work of student workers in libraries across campus by giving awards and using our funds for library improvement measures.

The functions of student library advisory groups are as varied as the institutions they serve. When those of us who work in libraries keep our ears open to the people we serve, we are better able to meet their information needs.
