Course Description

The goal of this course is for students to learn legal research strategies and resources (primary and secondary) useful for conducting research for upper-level classes and the practice of law. Students will build upon legal research skills gained in LRW I and II by conducting research in subscription and open access databases and evaluating the results of that research.

Written Work Product

There are no midterm and final examinations. Students’ work is assessed during the in-class research exercises (which may include group and individual work), class participation, and four to five written research assignments which are to be completed as homework (submitted to instructor not via EXPO).

Prerequisites: (Legal Research and Writing I (6004)) AND (Legal Research and Writing II (YR) (6005)) Because the credits in this course count toward the JD Program Professional Skills requirement, JD students will be given enrollment priority for this class. Concurrencies: None

Course Notes: Laptop computers are required for in-class research exercises. This course lasts 9 weeks with the last class session occurring in early November.
