Course Description

This course will build a working knowledge of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Responsibility and how they apply to the types of issues that commonly arise in the practice of law, including an introduction to the potential for variation across jurisdictions. In addition, the course will address the role of an attorney as a licensed professional subject to rules of professional conduct vis-à-vis the client, the courts, the organized bar, and the community. The course will introduce students to resources helpful to understanding application and interpretation of the rules

Description: Flex exam at end of the semester.

Written Work Product

There will be 3 brief written homework assignments designed to build familiarity with accessing legal ethics opinions, resources regarding jurisdictional variation, and ethics issues in the news. The assignments are to find and summarize one resource in each category.
