Join Dean Risa Goluboff and Elaine R. Jones ’70 at the dedication of Elaine’s oil portrait. Elaine R. Jones was the first Black woman to graduate from the Law School and later became the first woman to serve as president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF).

Memorial for Dean Albert R. Turnbull ’62
Caplin Auditorium, Law School
Join us in remembering Dean Albert R. Turnbull ’62, who, during his 36-year career at UVA, led admissions and career placement efforts and taught professional ethics and responsibility courses. He also influenced law school admissions nationally through his various Law School Admission Council roles. Dean Turnbull was estimated to have admitted 80% of living alumni of the school — more than 13,000 students. He passed away on January 25, 2021.

The Memorial to Enslaved Laborers

Located at the edge of the University of Virginia’s Grounds in the sloping landscape of the “Triangle of Grass” close to the intersection of University Avenue and Elliewood Avenue.
Participate in a Memorial to Enslaved Laborers (MEL) Tour Experience guided by Descendants of Enslaved Communities at UVA. This is an interactive walking-tour experience focusing on the design, history, and future of the MEL and the estimated 4,000 individuals who built and maintained the University of Virginia.
