Course Description

This is the first semester of a yearlong seminar designed to enhance students' understanding of ethical issues and address the broader ethical and moral responsibilities of the lawyer as citizen and leader. This section will examine these issues and responsibilities through the lens of Christian theology, specifically how Christian theology has contributed (or could contribute) to discussions of legal, ethical, moral, and human rights issues. The seminar will focus on—but not be limited to—such topics as ethics in matters of property and taxation, distributive and restorative justice, race and reparations, and policing. Our discussion of these themes will be informed by books, articles, videos and other media and students will be exposed to materials from cross-disciplinary and theological perspectives.
