Course Description

This course will help students develop the language skills and knowledge to properly represent monolingual Spanish-speaking clients. Students will study Spanish language legal vocabulary and practice explaining legal concepts to Spanish speakers. Students will also develop core cultural competency and legal skills.

Other Course Details

Prerequisites: Spanish proficiency is required as a prerequisite. The level of difficulty of the assignments presupposes that students already have familiarity with the essentials of Spanish grammar and can engage in proficient verbal communication. because the credits in this course count toward the JD Program Professional Skills requirement, JD candidates will be given enrollment priority for this class. Course Notes: Enrollment in this course is by application to the instructors. Interested students should email the following to Prof. Sanchez by October 1 with a resume and cover letter describing Spanish language experience and interest in the course. The instructors may arrange an interview with an applicant. The instructors will notify SRO with the names of the students to be enrolled in the course before the lottery process starts, and SRO will finalize the enrollment; no enrollment action will be required by the selected students. .
