A crucial first step in addressing intimate-image abuse is its proper conceptualization. Intimate-image abuse amounts to a violation of intimate privacy. This conceptualization allows us to better understand the significance of intimate privacy for individuals, groups, and society. Everyone deserves intimate privacy to create a life of meaning, respect, and love. Violations of intimate privacy undermine human flourishing, democratic engagement, and equal opportunity. The concept of intimate privacy exposes the breadth of the wrongs, the extent of the harm, and the varied actors involved surveilling and exploiting intimate life.
