Amy Woolard is an attorney and director of policy for the Legal Aid Justice Center. She has over a decade of experience in administrative and legislative advocacy, policy research and writing, as well as policy coalition-building around court and criminal legal systems, K-12 education, safety nets, health and poverty. She has also represented juvenile clients in education, foster care and juvenile court matters.

Prior to her role at LAJC, she spent five years with Voices for Virginia’s Children as the state’s lead advocate on child welfare and foster care policy. Woolard was appointed by Govs. Terry McAuliffe and Ralph Northam to the Virginia Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and Prevention, and she is also a longtime member of the Virginia Bar Association’s Commission on the Needs of Children. While at the Law School, Woolard was awarded the Lewis F. Powell Fellowship in Legal Services and the Caplin Public Service Center Pro Bono Award, among other honors. Woolard co-teaches the Youth Advocacy Clinic at the Law School.
