Following accounts of genocide, concentration camps, mass sexual violence and other atrocities during the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda in the early 1990s, the U.N. Security Council invoked its authority under Chapter VII of the U.N. Charter to establish the first international criminal tribunals since Nuremberg. Twenty-five years and scores of convictions (and acquittals) later, Najwa Nabti ’02 will discuss the continuing work of these courts in pursuing accountability for some of the worst atrocities of our time. Nabti is a legal officer/appeals counsel with the Office of the Prosecutor at the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in the Hague. She will also discuss career opportunities for law students interested in international criminal justice.
