Preschools and Daycare

Charlottesville boasts more than 40 day care and preschool options for area families. UVA operates four child care centers open to University students, as well as faculty and staff.

With some day cares in demand, it’s a good idea to look into multiple options and join waitlists early.

UVA-Affiliated Caregiving

There are four local UVA-affiliated child care centers managed by Bright Horizons for children aged infant through pre-K. Although the centers are affiliated with UVA, space is not guaranteed, and the cost is not paid for or subsidized by the University.

There are other local child care centers that are unaffiliated with UVA. The link above is a great resource for locating centers that may meet your family’s needs. From there, we recommend contacting the center(s) to find out about tuition and availability, and getting on the waitlist(s) if applicable.

There are also in-home and religiously affiliated child care centers in Charlottesville and the surrounding area. Many families learn about these options through independent research and/or word-of-mouth.

Finding a Nanny or Babysitter

Another option is hiring a nanny or babysitter who can provide child care services in a home setting. Below are two popular websites (unaffiliated with UVA) that can be used for finding independent child care providers.
