Launching a Career in Law Librarianship During the Pandemic
The fallout from COVID-19 has been disruptive for all law librarians, but it has presented a special set of challenges and opportunities for those just entering the profession. As new law librarians who joined academic or firm libraries during (or shortly before) the pandemic, we have navigated the ups and downs of starting a career remotely. We have experienced virtual onboarding, remote introductions, the trials (and benefits) of remote work, and a range of other unique experiences. In this article, we reflect on the challenges we faced and identify the opportunities we found as we launched our law librarian careers. Our hope is that our experience can inform managers and other new librarians as we transition into the uncharted territory of our new normal.
