The U.S. Supreme Court recently completed their October 2023 term by releasing a whirlwind of cases that will have far-reaching impacts on politics and the legal landscape for many years to come. While many commentators are focusing on the legal and political ramifications, I’m wondering how these decisions will impact how we perform legal research and how we teach legal research. I started thinking about this when I was preparing my Spring 2024 Advanced Legal Research class and the argument in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, the case which ultimately overruled Chevron, was looming. I teach a health law focused ALR class and include a module on administrative law and agency research since health law is so tied to regulations and agency materials.
