Dean’s Message

Dean Leslie Kendrick

One of the great joys of serving as a law school dean is the opportunity to thank alumni and friends for your remarkable contributions to our institution. I am delighted to do so again here, in the pages of the Law School Foundation’s Annual Report. These pages chronicle some of the many ways you support our institution: as the Foundation’s generous financial supporters and as annual and reunion giving volunteers. Your leadership in those areas is enormous, indeed. Seventy-three percent of the Law School’s living alumni contributed to the multi-year Honor the Future campaign, which concluded on June 30 with $507.9 million in gifts and pledges. At the same time, more than 9,000 alumni and friends participated in the Law School Foundation’s 2024-2025 Annual Giving Campaign, which raised $23.5 million. These extraordinary numbers are the result of so many giving so much, and I thank you all for each and every gift.

I am grateful, too, for everything else you do to enhance the Law School. Over the course of the year, you give boundlessly: as adjunct faculty and guest speakers, as moot court judges and alumni mentors, as practice interviewers and potential employers, as well as donors and Foundation volunteers. Your impact can be seen everywhere, most clearly in the incredible opportunities available to the current generation of UVA Law students.

July 2026 will mark the 200th anniversary of law classes taught at the University of Virginia. Thanks to you, our 200th cohort of students is receiving the world-class legal education that is the hallmark of a UVA Law degree.
